Volunteering with MDA (Magen David Adom)

The Israel By Design program duration is 2-10 months during that time you can choose to do a number of things. The program has three main tracks, Internship Track –> intern at leading companies in Israel, in the city of your choice, people usually choose Tel Aviv, Haifa or Jerusalem but it’s up to you.
Language Track –> come for 2-10 months and learn to speak Hebrew in an intense setting with the best teachers and practice your Hebrew while living like a local in the city of your choice.
Volunteer Track –> looking to give from yourself to the community, the world, Israel? Choose the field in which you want to contribute and we will make it happen.

Israel by Design program allows you to create your experience in Israel from where to live, how long you’d like to stay, and what you would like to take part in. You can connect to your roots and expand your horizons as you explore the country on your own terms.

There are quite a few options through which you can volunteer but one stands out: Magen David Adom (MDA). This ambulance service has a volunteer service that allows its volunteers to save lives as they experience Israel -live, travel, and enjoy.

During the program you will gain hands-on emergency first aid experience all across the country and on your time off you can venture to sightsee the Mediterranean coast, the Galilee mountains and even drive down to the Red Sea.

The Magen David Adom volunteer program has all volunteers participate in mandatory first aid training (Emergency Medical Services) in English, with an option of French or Spanish, where will learn and review basic bandaging, CPR, and even mass casualty accidents. It is a 10-day course in Jerusalem where you are able to ride in an ambulance and help save lives in Israel.

Later you will be stationed in different MDA locations throughout Israel’s cities and work with Israeli staff. You work alongside Israelis as you practice your Hebrew and you are exposed to Israel’s diverse population while saving lives and providing first response service as an EMS.

This is a 6.5-week program – 10 days of training and 5 weeks of volunteering. You should be between the ages of 21-30, know a basic level of Hebrew (required), but you are not expected to know any medical terminology. You should be in good physical and mental health.

Volunteering with Magen David Adom during your internship in Israel is a selfless act in which you’ll be able to help the local population as well as learn valuable skills and become familiar with Israeli society and culture.
